2009 Education Grant Awards, Total Awarded - $34,719.03

Broward Health/North Broward Hospital District: Breast Cancer Education and Empowerment Project.

The projects specific goals are to: provide breast cancer education to women who have been recently released from the Broward County correctional facilities by teaching the women the Triple Touch II curriculum, providing breast health education, and providing information on linkages to establishing a medical home. Northern 2/3 of Broward County.

Department of Community Health & Family Medicine, University of Florida College of Medicine: North Florida Community Cancer Connections (NFCCC): Training for Care for the Rural Breast Cancer Survivors.

This projects specific goals are to: provide training and resources to health care providers in North Florida rural clinics serving “high risk” breast cancer survivors. The training will include tools for assessing cancer related side effects and resources for improving the care of rural breast cancer survivors. North Florida.

H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute Foundation, Inc.: Empowering Underserved Women through Culturally and Linguistically Relevant Breast Health Education in Hillsborough and Pinellas Counties.

This projects specific goals are to: support vital breast health education for underserved women in Hillsborough and Pinellas Counties. Funding will assist us in providing breast health education workshops to these women at a variety of partnering community sites, including local churches, head start centers, senior centers, community health clinics and other community agencies. Hillsborough and Pinellas Counties in Florida.

Planned Parenthood of South Florida and the Treasure Coast, Inc, Breast Health Education Program.

This programs specific goals are to: reach into underserved Okeechobee County, which has an alarmingly high rate of uninsured adults and low incidence of mammograms among women. Prevention strategies and treatment options, to over 2000 culturally diverse residents in various community settings such as middle and high schools, faith-based organizations and service providers.
